PTDI Strengthens Indonesia's Defense Industry Diplomacy at the IDEF 2025 Exhibition in Turkey
Istanbul, Turkey (July 26) – PT Dirgantara Indonesia has once again strengthened its presence in the global defense industry by participating in the International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF) 2025 held in Istanbul, Turkey. At this event, PTDI is participating alongside Holding DEFEND ID as part of a long-term expansion strategy to strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global defense industry supply chain.
IDEF, recognized as one of the world’s largest defense exhibitions, serves as a strategic meeting point for over 1,500 companies from 78 countries. In this context, PTDI’s participation showcases Indonesia’s defense industry’s capability to provide aerospace solutions that are not only technologically competitive but also adaptable to regional needs and challenges.
Market Expansion and After-Sales Services
Currently, the African and Middle Eastern regions are key targets in PTDI's market expansion strategy, in line with projections for turboprop aircraft replacement needs estimated to reach hundreds of units by 2030. Flagship products such as the CN235-220 and NC212i aircraft, as well as the N219, are being prepared to address these opportunities.
In addition to offering aircraft platforms, PTDI is also targeting the Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) service sector, with a potential of more than 40 military and civil aircraft requiring long-term maintenance support. This certainly opens up opportunities for high-value after-sales business growth, while also extending the operational life of users' defense equipment in the region.
Diverse Strengthening of Indonesia-Turkey Strategic Partnerships in the Aerospace Sector PTDI leverages IDEF
as an industrial diplomacy platform to strengthen synergies with strategic partners in Turkey. Collaborations have been established with various key players in the Turkish defense industry, such as Turkish Aerospace, Havelsan, Aselsan, and ELSIS, covering aircraft production and engineering cooperation, collaboration for the production of Anka UAVs, simulator development programs, AEW&C aircraft programs, the development of a global supply chain for components and aerostructures, and other collaborations.
At IDEF 2025, PTDI also signed a number of cooperation agreements with strategic partners, namely Havelsan, particularly in the Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) and Maritime Surveillance Aircraft (MSA) programs, including modernization, assembly, and manufacturing work for prospective customers, both for end users in Indonesia, Turkey, and other potential countries. This agreement not only strengthens PTDI's position in the global market but also directly contributes to enhancing PTDI's manufacturing and engineering capabilities as an adaptive and collaborative national defense industry.
Additionally, PTDI and Havelsan have reaffirmed their collaboration in the development of the CN235-220 aircraft simulator, which has the potential to enhance national competencies in simulation technology and training, while also opening opportunities for simulator demand in the global market. Havelsan's support as a key player in simulation technology and defense systems will serve as a crucial catalyst for enhancing PTDI's competitiveness. The collaboration between PTDI and Havelsan will also be expanded for the AEW&C (Airborne Early Warning & Control) aircraft program to meet the needs of both Indonesia and Turkey.
PTDI also recognizes the importance of maintaining and improving the operational readiness and lifecycle support of the CN235 aircraft. To that end, at IDEF 2025, PTDI entered into a cooperation agreement with Aselsan to explore potential collaboration in the ongoing CN235 aircraft sustainability program at PTDI. This collaboration covers various strategic aspects, including system support, opportunities for capability enhancement, logistics solutions, and technical cooperation, which are expected to strengthen the reliability and operational lifespan of the CN235 aircraft in the future.
IDEF 2025 also serves as a good opportunity for PTDI to leverage opportunities for joint development and production of fighter jets with Turkish Aerospace. PTDI's involvement is expected to include participation in the main technology transfer program, positioning Indonesia to benefit from advanced fighter jet capabilities, state-of-the-art avionics, and cutting-edge design features. This is marked by the signing of a cooperation agreement under the Framework Agreement for the involvement of the national industry in the development and production of strategic components for fighter jets from Turkish Aerospace. This collaboration will also pave the way for PTDI to strengthen its engineering and manufacturing capabilities in the fighter jet sector, while increasing the added value of the domestic industry in the global supply chain.
These efforts to strengthen strategic partnerships reflect the improvement in bilateral relations between Indonesia and Turkey in the complementary field of defense industry. Indonesia has aircraft engineering and manufacturing capabilities, while Turkey excels in the development of advanced systems and sensors. Both countries place defense independence as a national priority, so this collaboration strengthens their position in the global market while creating mutually beneficial added value.
PTDI has also established a significant track record in previous collaborations, including the successful modification of six CN235 aircraft into Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) aircraft for the Turkish Navy and three CN235 aircraft into Naval Surveillance Aircraft (NSA) for the Turkish Coast Guard between 2003 and 2015 a significant track record that reinforces PTDI's position as an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and strategic partner in providing specialized aircraft solutions. The success of these programs reflects PTDI's technical competence and the quality of its work in meeting the high operational standards of Turkey's defense and security agencies.
Affirming the Global Role of Indonesia's Defense Industry
Through our participation in IDEF 2025, PTDI is strengthening its active role in building mutually beneficial strategic partnerships focused on strengthening the national defense industry. Collaboration with various partners in Turkey, including Havelsan, Aselsan, and Turkish Aerospace, is seen as a significant step toward enhancing Indonesia’s aerospace industry’s technological capabilities and competitiveness in the global market,” explained Gita Amperiawan, President Director of PTDI.
Participation in events like IDEF is part of Indonesia's strategic economic diplomacy to strengthen its influence in the global defense industry sector. For PTDI, this exhibition serves as a platform to build trust, both with existing users and new partners in the region who require robust and efficient aerospace solutions.
More than just business, PTDI's participation also reflects Indonesia's tangible contribution to promoting collective security architecture and strengthening the defense industry in strategic partner countries. Turkey's geographical position connecting Asia, Europe, and the Middle East makes it a strategic hub for PTDI's expansion into countries that use turboprop aircraft and need to replace their fleets. PTDI's readiness to become a strategic partner and global manufacturer reflects the nation's capacity to compete in the defense industry market, which is focused on innovation, efficiency, and sustainability.
